ASF is coordinating the Fiona Cleanup challenge for private woodlot owners, and is accepting proposals from the sector for the purpose of cleaning up low-grade fiber resulting from Hurricane Fiona on private lands. ![]()

The Province of Nova Scotia is funding a program of evaluation and assistance for the purpose of cleaning up low-grade fibre resulting from Hurricane Fiona damage. This program will help meet multiple objectives including but not limited to reducing the risk of forest fires, reducing habitat for invasive pests, creating areas where young healthy forests can thrive.![]()
Natural Resources and Renewables, NRR, is providing funding to the Association for Sustainable Forestry (ASF), to implement a Fiona low-grade fibre Clean-up Program. The funding may be payable to Landowners, Harvesting contractors, Trucking contractors, Private operators.![]()
The ASF will call for forest industry operators to propose incentive-based programs (up to 2 years) to support the clean-up of low-grade fiber from private lands damaged by Hurricane Fiona.![]()
The ASF will work with industry, key organizations, private operators to propose innovative and effective solutions to recover marketable low-grade fibre, while producing economic benefits.![]()

The Association for Sustainable Forestry is a progressive organization which provides small private woodland owners with the financial means to implement forest improvement work on their properties.
A small progress update on the Hurricane Fiona Woodlot Assistance Program:![]()

So far, the program has funded over 7500 hectares of woodlot cleanup, for a total of over $3.5 million distributed to landowners and contractors from harvests on approximately 400 individual landowner's woodlots.![]()

Future silviculture work is currently being planned for many of these sites. ![]()
