Following
is the latest information on the silviculture treatments that are being
funded through the Association for Sustainable Forestry (ASF) in 2009/10.
Funding has
been allocated for
Fill Planting (>300/ha),
Pre-commercial Thinning
in natural stands and
Commercial Thinning.
There has been $400,000.00 made available for these categories this
silviculture season. An additional $50,000.00 has been allocated for
Plantation Establishment
in areas previously claimed under the BSLB Zone Wood Salvage Initiative.
Woodland owners holding under
2000 hectares of woodland in Nova Scotia are eligible to apply for funding
under this program.
The
Silviculture Criteria found below explains the pre- and post-treatment
conditions that a stand must meet in order to be eligible for funding
through this program.
Please
note:
The application process has changed for the 2009/10 silviculture season. The
ASF has now implemented a Silviculture Funding Request Form. You will find
this form below. Anyone accessing the program is now required to fill out
only the Silviculture Funding Request Form for initial application. Request
forms will be accepted anytime until
September
4, 2009.
Please print the form and either fax or mail into the ASF. Funding will be
allocated based on the percentage of the total applied for, so that everyone
who applies receives some funding. Please note that there are still funding
caps of $10,000.00 per
landowner and $40,000.00 per silviculture contractor or agent.
Applicants will be contacted after September 10, 2009 with the amount of
funding granted and will have two weeks to send in Association for
Sustainable Forestry application forms, along with proof of public liability
and property insurance and Worker’s Compensation Insurance or private
insurance (please note: landowners working on their own woodland do not need
this insurance).
All silviculture treatments must be completed 90 days after application
approval or funding may be cancelled.
*If you are
applying for pre-commercial thinning in natural stands please note
that there will be a limit on the amount of high density treatments that can
be approved. Please apply for both high- and low-density pre-commercial
thinning in natural stands where possible.
Please find
the ASF Procedures Manual below. Anyone accessing the program is encouraged
to follow the manual for field procedures.
If you
would like to be added to our email contact list in order to receive
